Our Story

Due to the lack of transportation, market linkages and systematic productions, Chin Coffee was unable to be sold for many years. As a result, most of Coffee farmers in Chin State abandoned their unsold coffee.

In 2014, Hornbill Chin Coffee started buying coffee to re-launch the market.

In 2016, Hornbill Chin Coffee started, as a family-owned business, roasting coffee.

From 2016 to 2018, Hornbill Chin Coffee entered into state level and national level coffee-cupping competitions and was awarded medals. With these achievements, Hornbill Chin Coffee was able to motivate and encourage coffee farmers in Chin State to regain their interest in growing coffee again.

In 2018, the first coffee shop in Chin State was opened by Hornbill Chin Coffee in the town of Mindat.

How Hornbill Chin Coffee Started

Hornbill Chin Coffee came into existence as a result of participating the Presidential Garden Expeditionary Tour in Naypyidaw in 2014.

In this tour, Ko Mar Hung, the owner of Hornbill Chin Coffee met with U Ye Myit, the Chairman of Myanmar Coffee Association, whose encouragement and inspiration are cherished and led to the start of the Hornbill Chin Coffee.

In 2016, Chin Coffee produced in Mindat area was quality tested in Monywar and gained recognition. From that time, Hornbill Chin Coffee’s purpose is to buy coffee to support the income of coffee farmers in Mindat township, Chin State.
